Becoming a firefighter requires certain steps to qualify for the job. First, the candidate must pass a written test that measures listening, problem solving, and reading skills. They must also pass a physical examination, known as the Candidate Physical Ability Test. Candidates must be physically fit. They don't need to pass the physical examination if not active. Candidates who aren’t physically fit or don’t want to take part are offered training sessions.
